Karl Henry Berger

Staff Sergeant Karl Henry Berger, Sr., 76, of Needville, TX, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10:51 PM. He was born on February 14, 1943, in Victoria, Texas, the son of Emil Berger and Erna Priess Berger.

Karl graduated from Victoria High School in 1961. After graduation he joined the US Army and served 8 1/2 years, with one of those years in Vietnam. After leaving the military service, he worked as a licensed plumber for many years. On April 11, 1970, Karl married Pauline Weidner. He moved from Victoria to Needville, TX, in 1985, with his wife, Pauline Weidner Berger. After moving to Needville, he worked for 7 years as a night custodian for Needville ISD. Until his health began failing, he enjoyed going to Senior Citizens to play dominoes and visit with the other senior citizens.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Pauline Weidner Berger; two sons, Richard Edward Ulrich and Forrest Dewayne Berger; three grandchildren, Bryce Aron Wayne Ulrich, Sarah Paige Ulrich, and Peyton Michelle Ulrich; one foster grand child, Bubbie Mangem; brother, Royce Wayne Berger; many other relatives and friends, and his puppy dog, Buster.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Emil Berger and Erna Priess Berger; his grandparents; two cousins, Mary Ann Folkens and Patsy Christian; and his puppy dog, Buddy.

Visitation will be 5 — 7 PM Friday, January 24, 2020, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 3103 School Street, Needville, TX 77461. Karl will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Funeral Service will be at 11 AM Saturday at the Needville United Methodist Church, 8602 Church Street, Needville, TX 77461, with Rev. Roger Clayton officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Needville Methodist Church Cemetery on Needville Fairchild Road.

Serving as Pallbearers will be James Beene, Bryce Ulrich, Weston Mires, Wyatt Mires, Cooper Mires, Jesse Norwood, and Mathew Norwood. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 350 and the DAV Chapter 233.
